PARENTING...

*_SET RIGHT YOUR PRIORITIES AT PARENTING!_*

'You can't eat your cake and at the same time have it.' This is the similitude of a greater chunks of Nigerian parents who send their wards abroad for schooling.

Parenting is an opportunity we are bestowed upon by the virtue of being parents and by that we are obliged to exist in the lives of these _fruits of the womb_ that the Bestower has benefited us with. We are to strive positively at upbringing them, guiding them, spending on them (not majorly fund-wise but more importantly our time), and connecting them to that in which lies their potentialities.

People with senior relatives intending to send their children to Canada for undergraduate studies are kindly advised to ensure they can financially support them for a minimum of 2years. The bandwagon practices of most parents now sending their children to Canada with the hope that the children will work and study to settle their bills are irrational.

At the masjid this morning, there was a discussion on _two young Nigerian girls_ 16 and 18 who *attempted suicide due to stress and discomfort.* I felt ashamed today when a Pakistan man said it is common among Nigerians. "_Nigerian parents are just cruel; why subjecting a young girl you haven't trained to be resilient to this hardship._"

As sad as this exposition is, the fact remains that this is the reality on ground. Some of such lads can cope but majority cannot and as such end up graduating without substance. Please, please and please, let the intending parents on this drive take to this advice.

May Allaah assist us in setting right our priorities and may we not be denied the fruits of our labour...aamiin.
