FACING CHALLENGES WITH POSITIVE MINDSET

THE HISTORICAL ANTECEDENTS TO MY STUDYING SOCIAL COHESION COURSES

For longer years even before I was born, my father had been a strong upholder of the rights of kinship. He held and led Bolaji family in Ibadan and elsewhere to which I belong with empathy and open-mindedness. The narratives on Alhaji Apola Bolaji were tactful. They were reminiscent of linking every individual; whether familial or marital. This is part and parcel of my family traditions. He would persuade adults to be conscious of compatibility in their choice of future partners. Besides, he was used to encouraging broadening the family size.  Even an inclusion from other tangential or distant tribes was never a headache to him. In fact, he always stands to perfect that. As a result of the large presence of family members around him, my father displayed extra boldness in confronting challenges of piloting this affairs and his approach of making everyone felt important contributed greatly towards his successes. His incessant encouragement did transfer an indelible impact on me. I cannot give a second thought to an opportunity promoting a concern for human well-being except to go for it. Thus, a career in Social Science and Humanities remains a plus for me.

Tangible events around have concretized that interest in me. In a self-willingness exploit, I made it to Lagos. I could remember that vividly now. It was on one of Chief Jimoh Bolaji - my cousin’s visits to Ibadan. I found myself clung to his neck determined to accompany him to Lagos in his Toyota Corolla car. My father could do nothing but inform my Mum. Being a true soul-mate of my father, she joined him in bidding me farewell. I recognize this moment as the epiphany of the struggle of many heads of African families, sacrificing the enjoyment felt with the presence of their off-springs around themselves for a greater good in linking and keeping the rights of kinship.  It was not surprising to me as the head of Lagos Bolajis himself has one time fared under the tutelage of my father before establishing himself in Lagos. Therefore, I refuse to consider my adamant to go with them strange. Yet every time I took a breeze of memory from this incidence, curiosity and inspiration to excel always overcome me.

Though my father is late now, the two marriages of the family’s eldest son and his immediate sisters to a somewhat fetish tribe in Yorubaland remained peaceful and prolific till date. I observed this as a trait from bravery in facing challenges with positive mindset. This line of thought was exactly recorded to my feats when I met my father-in-law some years back. It was in Ondo State, Nigeria. I have gone to him along with a friend of mine to ask for my wife’s hand in marriage. Prior to this, I never had any chat with her but had only stolen a glance at her once. I approached my father-in-law while being confident of my readiness to get married and not to commence a game. Everything thereafter worked out well!

PARENTING...

*_SET RIGHT YOUR PRIORITIES AT PARENTING!_*

'You can't eat your cake and at the same time have it.' This is the similitude of a greater chunks of Nigerian parents who send their wards abroad for schooling.

Parenting is an opportunity we are bestowed upon by the virtue of being parents and by that we are obliged to exist in the lives of these _fruits of the womb_ that the Bestower has benefited us with. We are to strive positively at upbringing them, guiding them, spending on them (not majorly fund-wise but more importantly our time), and connecting them to that in which lies their potentialities.

People with senior relatives intending to send their children to Canada for undergraduate studies are kindly advised to ensure they can financially support them for a minimum of 2years. The bandwagon practices of most parents now sending their children to Canada with the hope that the children will work and study to settle their bills are irrational.

At the masjid this morning, there was a discussion on _two young Nigerian girls_ 16 and 18 who *attempted suicide due to stress and discomfort.* I felt ashamed today when a Pakistan man said it is common among Nigerians. "_Nigerian parents are just cruel; why subjecting a young girl you haven't trained to be resilient to this hardship._"

As sad as this exposition is, the fact remains that this is the reality on ground. Some of such lads can cope but majority cannot and as such end up graduating without substance. Please, please and please, let the intending parents on this drive take to this advice.

May Allaah assist us in setting right our priorities and may we not be denied the fruits of our labour...aamiin.

My First Nigerian New Train Experience!!!

*The New Train: Harbinger of Good Old Time...*

AbuuHaashim M. A. BOLAJI

(29-07-2021)

The train ride is hitch-free, considerably cheap and timely. Lots of businesses could be built round this transport section in making it more at ease for its patronizers.

Such endeavours could be in terms of taxi/tricycle to and fro the stations; guest houses/relaxation venues; tourist centres and the likes...

The on-train benefits are numerous. Besides the opportunity to view the beautiful scenes out there in the outskirts of our cities, the 'feel-at-home' hospitality realised with the USB Charging points, comfort stations and trash bins are up to talk.

On the part of the NRC management, I would want that the announcement at each station be made repeatedly making it even audible to those in the closets of the train. I missed my stop at Abeokuta (Wแปlรฉ Soyinka Station) today. I was forced to consider alighting at Itori 2 Station (Funmilayo Rasom Kuti Station) because I was attending to one of my daughters traveling with me on the train and couldn't hear the announcement for those alighting at the said Station.

Generally, train traveling in Nigeria would be great and would be the best in the near future for the ever exploding population Nigeria is known with if the current tempo is maintained and improved on.

BUT WITH A SIMPLE DIRECTION...

 ADVICE AGAINST VICE!!!

Walking alone may hasten your checks
But collaborating helps strengthen your steps.

With your lone checks you're faster
Yet with like minds you'll move farther...

Rendering hundred days' assignment
In to just a day achievement.

This is the case with me fellows on the rung;
My claimed Cert of Responsive bellows for long...

But with a simple direction
From our Lead
I see before me a fruition
Of my seed.

Thus I speak of advice against vice
That you don't hesitate to speak out dear!
For the surprise from which you're to rise
Has a map already with someone here!
